Your Health and Ayurveda

The physiological and psychological functions of the body are known to be intricately woven, in Ayurveda. The body houses the Soul and through its connection to the mind bodily functions are maintained.

With this principal in mind Satmya offers effective classical Ayurvedic treatments and therapies such as Shirodhara and full body Abhyanga to restore the psycho-somatic balance.

Ayurveda teaches us that the mind is of 3 qualities or Gunnas

Sattwa

Rajas

Tamas

The balance of which dictates health or disease for the individual. Programs at Satmya help to restore this optimum ratio through wholesome diets and regimes.

This physical body is composed of 5 great elements or Mahabhutas:

Ether

Air

Fire

Water

Earth

These elements are expressed as 3 energies or doshas

Vata

Pitta

Kapha

These energies also manifest in the body as tissues or Dhatus and as Malas or bodily wastes.

Ayurvedic Nutrition

Ayurvedic nutrition does not comply with the modern concept of a balanced diet, that is, eating the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of the macro (protein, fats, carbohydrates) & micro (vitamins & minerals) nutrients.

Ayurveda takes a more holistic approach to food & nutrition. Ayurveda is concerned with the energetics (gunnas) of food & how the food influences both your mind & body (doshas). It stresses the importance of taste & recognises six tastes that are necessary for a balanced diet.

Six Tastes

Sweet Sour Salty Pungent Bitter Astringent
