Shiro-Abhyanga
This is a deeply relaxing head, neck and arms massage. Marma points on your head are gently stimulated to help with dryness, hair loss and to improve your memory.
Shiroabhyanga, more commonly known as Indian head massage, is one of the most popular Ayurvedic treatments. It is an ancient form of head, neck and shoulder massage which has profound effects on the entire body. The head is often overlooked when it comes to massage. The Ayurvedic health system attributes great healing potential to the head area as 8 of the 10 gateways to the body are located in this region. An important part of Ayurvedic therapies is Marma therapy. “Marmasthans” (Marma Points) are special points of energy (energy channels/gateways) in the body. This ancient science of dealing with body energies was taken to China during the religious and cultural changes in India. In Traditional Chinese medicine we can see Marma therpy in the form of Acupuncture, acupressure & Reflexology.
In Ayurveda, marma points are used in Abhyanga & Shiroabhyanga. These points are used to unblock energy channels & encourage the flow of energy (prana) in the entire body. Some very important Marma points are located in the head area, for example the Brahmand & the Adipathi marma which according to Ayurveda constitute the snakes mouth which lead to the serpentine or kundalini energy of the spine. Thus are important points to stimulate during a massage in order to relax the mind & body.
The Ayurvedic hair oil that is used has calming properties and will also help to strengthen & nourish the hair. The action of the massage increases oxygenated blood supply to the brain and assists with the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, increasing the level of life energy.
